Do I need an architect and a structural engineer?
Depending on the scope of work that you would like to accomplish, we may refer your project to an architect or engineer. Many interior projects do not require an architect, but home additions that affect the exterior of your home do. Projects that alter an existing wall in anyway most likely require a structural engineer.
Does LKSmith Design provide architectural, engineering, and contracting services?
No, LKSmith Design provides interior design services for your home, kitchen, and bathrooms only. If you are seeking additional services, we can provide referrals or work directly with our trusted architects, engineers, and general contractors. Alternatively, if you are seeking a designer to work with a team that you have contracted with, we are happy to do so.
Can LKSmith Design provide construction documents?
LKSmith Design will provide provide documentation for nonseismic and nonstructural projects, as allowed by law, that can be submitted to your city or county to acquire your building permit.
Please note: In rare occurrences, a city official may unexpectedly require plans, computations, and specifications to be prepared and designed by an engineer or architect at his/her own discretion upon reviewing your project.

Does LKSmith Design provide interior decorating services?
The term “interior design” refers to a wide array of services that range from space planning to choosing fabrics, so we understand that finding the right interior designer for your project can be confusing!
LKSmith Design does not provide services normally related to interior decorating, such as furniture selection, fabric selection, window treatments, wall art and general decorations.
LKSmith Design specializes in space planning, kitchen and bath design, and interior architectural details for your renovations and home additions. Examples of the finish materials and fixtures that we source include:
Paint colors or wall paper
Interior doors and trim
Light fixtures and ceiling fans
Flooring or carpet
Cabinets and cabinet hardware
Backsplash tile and grout
Sink and faucet hardware
